Massage in Crawley - 5 Star Reviews

What does Thai massage include at Jing Mai?

Thai massage originated in India and has been around for over 2,500 years. It was created to be a healing art, and includes influences from traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic techniques from India.

Our trained Thai massage therapists use a number of stretching, pulling and rocking techniques to help relieve tension and promote relaxation while improving flexibility and circulation. Thai massage is sometimes referred to as assisted yoga, and the massage focusses on helping the flow of energy move through the body correctly.

You can choose whether you want Thai massage for a particular body part, as well as the amount of pressure. Some clients, especially people who are active or play sports, often prefer a firmer massage because it helps to loosen muscles and remove the effects of previous injuries. You can discuss your requirements with your therapist on arrival at our Crawley massage centre.

Benefits of Thai Massage

Thai massage is beneficial in several ways. We’ve outlined the primary benefits below.

Thai massage relieves headaches.

Clients who suffer from migraines or tension headaches know how debilitating the symptoms can be. Several studies have found that patients with chronic headaches have been greatly helped through Thai massage, which reduced the intensity of their migraines.

Thai massage reduces back pain.

Thai massage is great for stretching the body out and realigning any stagnant energy and tension that lingers in the body. Stress can reside in the shoulders, hips and back. Using proven massage techniques, practitioners can help clients ease tension in the lower back and reduce pain associated with trigger points in the upper back.

Thai massage lessens joint stiffness and pain.

As Thai massage is like a form of yoga, it is works wonders for clients with joint stiffness. Thai massage is especially effective at relieving joint pain in knees.

Thai massage increases flexibility and range of motion.

It’s unsurprising that Thai massage is great for improving flexibility. The massage therapist moves the client’s body into a variety of stretches, at times used their own body weight to help the client sink deeper into the stretch. Thai massage also helps improve blood flow and oxygen supply to muscles which helps reduce pain and decrease muscle adhesions. This is great for athletes looking to improve their range of motion and help them recover from a sporting injury.

Thai massage eases anxiety.

Like most massage techniques, Thai massage is great for relaxation and easing anxiety. Throughout the duration of their session, clients will settle into a state of calm and relaxation; a state that will stay with them long after the massage session ends.

Frequently asked questions

What to expect from a Thai full body massage?

Thai massages are typically conducted on a mat or the floor and involve being gently guided through several stretches, deep tissue massage, and breathing exercises to increase energy and flexibility.

If you wish to focus on a particular area of the body, discuss your needs with us at our Crawley massage centre.

What does a Thai massage include?

Thai massages include stretches and poses that you would typically find in yoga, gentle manipulations of muscles, and pressure placed on various parts of the body along the sen lines.

If you are interested in Thai massages in Crawley, please get in touch with us!

What is the difference between Thai massage and regular massage?

Regular massages, like deep tissue and Swedish massage, traditionally use oil to help knead, push, and pull your muscles. Thai massage focuses on the flow of energy throughout the body by putting pressure along the energy lines (also known as the sen lines) in the body. Thai massage also incorporates elements from yoga to improve flexibility and relaxation. Unlike regular massage, Thai massage is conducted fully clothed.

Our Crawley massage centre offers a wide variety of massages, including Thai and regular massages.

Is Thai massage like Chinese massage?

Thai and Chinese massages are similar in the way they use pressure to readjust the energy flow throughout your body. Chinese massage does this by deeply working acupoints to regulate qi, whilst Thai massage focuses along the sen lines. Chinese massage is considered the more intense experience due to the hammering and vibrating that may be done to your muscles.

Both Asian massages are available at our Crawley massage centre.

Do you wear clothes during a Thai massage?

Thai massage is performed in clothes you can easily move in (think anything you would wear for a yoga class!). Sometimes, bulky clothes that may hinder your movement or make it difficult for our massage therapists to access your muscles need to be removed.

If you have any questions about what to wear to your Thai massage, please get in touch with us!

What not to do after a full body massage?

To make sure you’re getting the best massage experience, it’s advised not to do the following things straight after your session:

  1. Have a hot shower. The oils used during your full body massage require time to be absorbed by your skin, and showering within an hour of your massage can prevent this from happening!
  2. Forget to stretch. Our trained massage therapists may provide you with some further stretches to do at home to further improve your flexibility and relaxation.
  3. An intense workout. After deep tissue massages, it is advised to give your muscles time to relax and heal before putting them under further stress.
  4. Drink coffee. Caffeine is a stimulant that can affect the relaxation and flow of energy achieved through our massages.
  5. Drink Alcohol. Soft tissue requires time to recover following any intense massage, like a deep tissue or Chinese massage, and the inflammation caused by alcohol can sometimes negatively affect this process.

What body parts should be avoided during a massage?

The body parts avoided during a massage can differ depending on a person’s needs, and you should always let your massage therapist know of any preferences or concerns you may have. Any cuts or burns or varicose veins will not be touched, nor will any area usually covered by a bikini (such as genitalia or breasts).

Do I take everything off for a massage?

Clothing for a massage can depend on the type of massage. For example, Thai massages, and some Chinese massages, are performed fully clothed. Full body massages, deep tissue massage, and Swedish massage use oils as part of the session, so you are asked to take off everything except your underwear for these massages.

Why can't you shower after a massage?

Showering too soon after a massage can wash away all the oils used during your session before they have the chance to be absorbed by your body. A hot shower immediately after can also leave you feeling dizzy or faint, especially if you have low blood pressure.

Cooler and shorter showers are recommended to prevent muscle stiffness and aid in recovery.

Is Thai massage deep tissue?

The Thai massage offered at Jing Mai massage is not a deep tissue massage. Instead pulling and stretching techniques are used, and our experienced massage therapist will guide you through a range of motions aimed at improving flexibility.

To determine if a Thai massage or a deep tissue massage is right for you, don’t hesitate to contact us!

What parts of the body is full body massage?

Full body massages target the head, shoulders, arms, back, glutes, legs, and feet.

What is the difference between Thai and Chinese massage?

Thai massage is often the gentler experience, with its focus on sen lines and improving your range of motion.

Chinese massage is considered a type of deep tissue massage and involves the targeting of acupoints through various hand techniques – including hammering or vibrations on your back!

Our masseuses at Jing Mai massages are trained in both Thai and Chinese massage.
